Who, besides TWIA, is writing windstorm insurance in Galveston county, TX?

I’m purchasing a new home in Galveston County, TX and am looking for an insurer who will provide wind & hail coverage without going through Texas Windstorm Insurance Association. I want to avoid TWIA because I’ve heard of lots of people who have problems with them and because their future is up in the air right now because they are basically bankrupt.

Afraid you are out of luck, the state backed TWIA is about the source of windstorm coverage for coastal Texas. They are as you say technically insolvent and injecting new funds is going to be tricky since inland Texans are objecting to the possibility of their taxes or insurance premiums going up to cover risks on the coast. Either way, rates are likely to be 20-30% higher than in previous years.
